Day Sailing, Provincetown

Guests

Moment can take up to six guests of all ages for day sails. All children up to and including 12 years old must wear a life jacket and count toward the six person capacity of the boat. We will do our best to provide life jackets, but please announce children 12 and under in advance. We apologize that Moment is not very handicap-friendly as all guests must be able to step up the equivalent of a three step ladder. Sorry, no pets.

Destinations and Activities

While each day's winds and weather dictate the course of our sail, here are some possibilities of how our sail might go. After boarding the boat, we will set sail and go out around Provincetown Harbor and Long Point for two hour sails. Four to six hour sails will allow us to go further into Cape Cod Bay to Wood End Light and possibly to Race Point or towards Wellfleet. With time and conditions permitting, we can anchor the boat, swim, or dinghy ashore to explore Long Point or Herring Cove Beach. We often see wildlife including seals, birds, and sometimes dolphins or whales. Evening sails will enjoy Provincetown's beautiful golden light and the setting sun. At the end of each sail, we'll call Flyer's launch to return you to shore.

Involvement

You are welcome to participate, learn, or simply soak up the sailing and enjoy the Moment. Aboard Moment, it would be only in special circumstances that may you be asked to assist with the vessel.

Directions

Depart from Flyer's Boat Rentals located at 131 Commercial St, Provincetown. View Parking options for Provincetown. You will walk to the end of their pier and request the launch attendant to bring you to Moment or Momento's mooring, reflective of what you have chartered. The launch is $10 each way for the group. Note that on low tides, you may have get your feet wet in order to get onboard the launch, so please dress accordingly.

What to Bring
Clothes

You can bring a light waterproof jacket in case we get a sprinkle or sea spray. Some evenings get cool, so an additional sweater or sweatshirt isn't a bad idea either. Don't forget sunglasses, hats, bathing suits, beach towels, and non-spray / non-bronzer sunscreen to make your sail more enjoyable. We request you to apply spray sun-screen onshore prior boarding and not use while on board.

Shoes

We like to keep our white decks white, so the first rule on shoes is no black marking soles. Shoes and sandals with gum soles like Converse and white-soled boat shoes and deck shoes are best. Boots and sneakers, while seemingly like they would have good grip, often don’t and mark the decks with their dark soles. You are welcome to go shoe-less as well if you prefer.

Food and beverages

Light snacks and waters will be aboard for your enjoyment, however feel free to pack a picnic and bring your own favorite beverages. (Please no red wine or staining beverages though!) Interested in having us arranging catering? Please let us know ahead of time and we will do our best to accommodate you from one of our favorite local options.

Motion sickness

It is very normal for guests to not be accustomed to the motion of the boat at sea. Recommendations for preventing sickness include proper rest and hydration, Bonine (1 hour before boarding), ginger gum and chews, wristbands, always looking at the horizon, and refraing from discussing the topic at length.

Gratuity

It is customary to tip the captain/crew 15-25% of the cost of the sail when chartering a sailboat. Like any hospitality position, this is a large part of our compensation. Did you have fun? Please show us here.

Weather and Cancellations

If you contact us and cancel 14 days or more prior to your departure date you will receive a full credit to book another trip within one year or an 85% refund. Less than 14 days notice you will receive a 50% refund. If you must cancel less than 48 hrs before your trip there is no refund. No-shows will be charged the full price. If we have to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, we will do our best to reschedule or give you a full refund. If there is severe weather, we will work with you to reschedule.

Multi-Day Sailing

Guests

Moment can both take up to four guests of all ages for multi-day sails. All children up to and including 12 years old must come supplied with their own life jackets and count as one of the guests. We apologize that Moment is not very handicap-friendly. Sorry, no pets.

Destinations and synopsis

Take our two day classic tour of Cape Cod Bay aboard Moment. We will sail to Plymouth and Wellfleet harbors to experience the towns' dining and history, while staying aboard Moment on anchor. Interested in other New England Destinations such as Nantucket, Boston, Martha's Vineyard, Cuttyhunk, Marblehead, Sandwich, New Bedford and more? Additional days and destinations are possible by extending the trip for $1099/day. Please email sail@momentsailing.com to inquire and reserve.

After boarding the boat at 1PM the first day of your charter, we will get you settled and then discuss the weather forecast. In most cases, we will then quickly set sail for Plymouth Harbor (or previously discussed first destination). The sail is typically 4-5 hours. We will anchor off of Plymouth Harbor, unless you would like to request a slip or mooring (at your expense), which is closer to shore. We will get you to shore to walk around and have dinner. The next day, we will review the weather and see if there is time for you to go in town again or if we should depart for Wellfleet Harbor first thing. With good winds, Wellfleet is 5-6 hours away. This requires us anchoring and dinghying ashore for you to explore this quaint town with some fantastic seafood options. We will return to the mooring by noon of the last day and call for the launch to return you to Flyer's.

Directions

Unless an alternate pickup/drop off destination has been discussed, depart from Flyer's Boat Rentals located at 131 Commercial St, Provincetown. View Parking options for Provincetown. You will walk to the end of the Flyer's pier and request the launch to bring you to Moment's mooring. The launch is $10 each way for the group.

What to Bring

Clothes

You can bring a waterproof jacket in case we get rain or sea spray. Pack a couple of layers like a light long sleeve and a sweater or fleece as some days and evenings can get cool on the water. Don't forget sunglasses, hats, bathing suits, beach towels, and sunscreen to make your sail more enjoyable. Please bring non-spray / non-bronzer sunscreen to use while on board. Bath towels and linens are provided. What will you put everything in? We recommend duffel backs an NOT roller-board suitcases as they are easier to stow and do not bang around as the boat moves.

Shoes

We like to keep our white decks white, so the first rule on shoes is no black marking soles. Sneakers, while seemingly like they would have good grip, often don’t and mark the decks. Shoes and sandals with gum soles like Converse and white-soled boat shoes and deck shoes are best. You are welcome to go shoe-less as well if you prefer.

Food and beverages

Breakfasts, lunches and light snacks will be provided. You are welcome to pack your own alcoholic beverages (Please no red wine or staining beverages though!) Special dietary needs or requests? Please let us know ahead of time and we will do our best to accommodate you. Each night we will get you into town so that you can choose from one of the local restaurants that our destination has to offer.

Involvement

You are welcome to participate, learn, or simply soak up the sailing and enjoy the Moment. There are some tasks that are helpful to have an extra hand with and we'll gladly welcome your support. Otherwise, only in special circumstances may you be asked to assist with the vessel.

Additional Expenses

Price does not include on-board dinners, launch / dockage fees, diesel surcharge exceeding 4hrs/day, or gratuity.

If there is unfavorable or severe weather, we will continue the charter, but make sailing decisions on an hour by hour basis to make the best of your experience.

Testimonials

A Birthday with Friends
I hosted a small group for my 50th birthday aboard Moment in January of 2016, sailing from Fort Lauderdale — a perfect way to celebrate! The experience was excellent in every regard. The vessel was clean, safe, and more than adequate for the four-hour cruise we took. Captain Chris was personable, attentive, and fun while maintaining a watchful eye on both the guests and the sailboat. He is clearly an experienced waterman and also a fun and humble man. Thank you Chris for being part of a forever memory for all of us! I highly recommend Moment Sailing Adventures. We will see Chris and Moment again in Ptown and will most likely make this an annual event! I highly recommend this adventure!

An Unforgettable Proposal
I proposed to my now fiance on this yacht and it was all around fantastic. Chris is a great captain, he led us out to smooth waters, made sure we had the best food and took fantastic photos. I could not have asked for a better experience or a better captain.

The yacht is also GORGEOUS inside and out. Whole heartedly recommend for romance, relaxation or both :)

–Peter M.

Two Weeks in Greece
Seven friends and I chartered a sailboat for a 15-day sailing trip in the Greek islands. Captain Chris was the first and only choice to captain our boat. I have sailed with many other captains over the years, both in the States and abroad, and without question, Captain Chris’s combination of professionalism, expertise and friendly demeanor are without peer. He came very well prepared to navigate through waters that demand extensive experience, and his deep knowledge of sailing and boat mechanics gave me and my guests the full confidence and comfort to never have to worry about anything — we could instead just kick back and really enjoy our vacation and one of the best sailing experiences possible.

-Kostos B.

A Week in New England
Our group of friends chose Moment Saiilng Adventures to take us on an unforgettable week in New England with stops in Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, New Bedford, and Cutty Hunk. Captain Chris's fun, confident, and accomodating nature was exactly what we needed to enjoy some of the best cruising grounds in the U.S.! A must do!
